This insanely popular eighties Christmas song by the English pop duo has over 330 million views on youtube as of 2018.
The first car to drive into the town of Saas Fee was on 8 July 1951.
President Hubert Bumann drove into town to mark this historic day. It was the day that some people think allowed the start of tourism in the area because now people could actually get there.
The ski chase scene for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was filmed in Saas Fee.
Saas Fee was one of the locations used to film ski chase scenes from George Lazenby’s first role as James Bond. His first and last time in the role. The film did not prove as popular as its predecessor, /You Only Live Twice/.
The first person to use skis in Switzerland did so in Saas Fee in 1849.
That person was a priest named Johan Josef Imseng. He skied on home made wooden skies, from Saas Fee to Saas Grund. An impressive feat for the time. Imseng was skiing to give the last rites to a dying person in Saas Grund…what a man!
The first people to inhabit Saas Fee were celts.
Driven from their homelands by the invading Roman army, Celts are believed to be the first to settle in the region. Followed by the Moors a couple of hundred years later.
The town sits beneath the highest mountain in Switzerland.
The Dom is 4,545m above sea level. It is the highest mountain inside the Swiss border and the third highest in the Alps.
